Yin/Yang Yoga Class

This class uses asanas and conscious breathing in combination with mental focus to develop awareness, strength, flexibility and relaxation. The first 30 minutes of the class is a strength focused practice while the second 30 minutes is a relaxation practice. Both together in combination for a perfectly balanced class. This class is perfect for both beginners and for seasoned yogis.

What is yin yoga?

Yin yoga is a practice where postures are held longer (3 - 10mins) to allow the fascia (connective tissues) to stretch. When we target more than just the muscles, we are are able to also stretch our ligaments and tendons therefore strengthening our joints.

Besides the physical benefits, yin yoga additionally allows us to relax by moving our body into the parasympathetic nervous system - turning off the 'flight or fight' mode to give our bodies time to rest and digest. The meditative quality and focus on breath enables us to practice surrendering into the pose, letting go of tension / stress in a safe and supported space.

In summary, yin yoga:

Is floor based;
Slower paced;
Calming / restorative;
Uses props such as bolsters, blankets & blocks;
Targets connective tissues (fascia, ligaments + tendons); and
Suitable for all levels and ages.
